Stage 5 consists of cleaning the underside of the car, ordering parts, painting the underbody, ordering parts, putting the body on the frame, ordering parts, small parts assembly, and lets not forget ordering parts.
Unfortunately, my camera died while I was doing some of the work, so all I have to show for it is finished pictures.
This first picture shows the body back on the frame. It is moving along nicely.

At this point, I have also purchased a parts car. It was my buddies 86' 442 that he had for sale.

I have received a little bit of grief over using a real 442 as a parts car for a non 442. But hey, no one else came up with the cash for it. This car, once I have replace all my parts back on to it, will be sold. It is almost ready to go.
Plans are to take the non performance parts from my car and transfer them onto this car, while taking the good parts from this car and transfer them onto my car. The items I am taking include but are not limited to:
|
8.5 rear (presently being rebuilt by Brian Trick 3-13-07) burgundy dash bezel (installed 2-10-07) quick ratio steering box (being rebuilt 3-13-07) Steering column speedometer/tach gauge cluster floor shifter (being rebuilt 3-12-07) |
burgundy power reclining bucket seats driveshaft OZ coded 2004r 4 spd tranny f-41 sway bars front and rear (being sandblasted and painted by Brain Trick 3-13-07) center console (being rebuilt 3-2-07) |
and pretty much anything else I can think of that I want to take off it. The nice thing is that this 442 was a burgundy interior, black exterior car, just like mine. Some parts need refurbishing, but as I get to the parts to install them I will rebuild as necessary.
I have also installed the stainless steel brake lines pre-bent from classic tube. Pricey, but man, the ease of installment, quality of fit, I would spend the money again.
Pictures really don't do these justice. I still have to order the fuel lines, which will also come from classic tube.
And check out that paint underneath the car. It took me a few weeks, a couple of hours at a time, laying on my back while the body was off the frame. I used a drill with a wire wheel. Little by little, inch by inch, the grime undercoating and old flaky paint came off. The nice thing was there was no rust. I didn't have to patch any metal. Just cleaned, wiped down with lacquer thinner and painted it chassis black, same as the frame.

The above picture shows the stainless brakes perfect routing and the painted surface.
